Cargo was founded by guitarist Adrian Barar in 1985 in Tmisoara, Romania. First line up was Carol Bleich - drums, Octavian Iepan - guitar, Tibi Gajdo - bass, Dinel Tollea - keyboards, Nae Ionel Tarnotzi (ex-Progresiv TM / Pro Musica) - vocals and of course Adi Barar - guitar.
In that years was made some never recorded songs: Portile de Fier, Fotografia, Dincolo de oglinda. Carol Bleich decided to try his luck outside the country and the band have new drummer: Peter Kocsef (ex-Progresiv TM). Bassist Tibi Gajdo was replaced by Tibi Bako.Vocalist Leo Iorga came and Cargo begin to tour in the whole country. Helped by Socaciu, Cargo recorded "Brigadierii" and "Buletin de Stiri" into Radio Romania Studio. In 1989 Cargo made a contest for finding a vocalist. Was discovered Ovidiu Ioncu, nicknamed "Kempes" for his footbal skils. He came from a small band in Arad, named Capricorn. In the summer of 1989 Cargo made a concert at Costinesti. Then Dinel Tollea composed "Doi Prieteni" and Adrian Barar composed "Ana". In 1990 Cargo was gone a period in Yugoslavia, and after experience they concerted in Timisoara with two serbian bands: Riblja Corba and Bajaga i Instructori. After that the band made a big tour in France. With bassist Raul Dudnic (ex - ABRA) and guitarist Adrian Popescu (ex - Metamorf) they recorded in France most of the first album songs.
In 1992 Cargo released the first album: "Povestiri din gara". Dinel Tollea leave Romania for Switzerland and after short time Cristian Pup came at keyboards. In may 1995 Cargo released their second album on tape and CD, named "Destin". Bad luck strike again the band: Kempes had a terrible accident with his motorcycle. Ioncu's accident was an opportunity for vocalist Adrian Igrisan to temporarily replace him and prove his skils.
In 1998 the band will release a new album: "Ziua Vrajitoarelor" and a brochure named "Jurnal de Bord" with all song lyrics and oficial band biography. Media Pro Music Bucuresti, the band new recording house, will re-release all their past albums into tape and CD.
The year 2003 held new surprises for the band: with a dedicated and passionate audience waiting, Cargo was preparing to celebrate its 18 year anniversary with the release of a new album. Unfortunately, the band's plans have taken an unexpected turn: the vocalist (Ioncu) suddenly abandoned the band and moved permanently to Australia, claiming that "he cannot live just from music". The members decided to go on and have Igrisan replace him as a singer. Album number 4, "Spiritus Sanctus", had been released at the Children's Palace in Bucharest in 2003.
In 10 june 2007, Cargo released their latest "best of" album named Cargo XXII, celebrating 22 years since Cargo was founded. The album have 22 songs: 21 of their best of Cargo all time songs, and a new song named "Ca o stea".
